BEST ADJUSTABLE WEIGHTED VEST REVIEW – CAP Barbell Adjustable Weighted Vest
How to find the best Adjustable Weighted Vest –
Are you tired of running on the treadmill, but still feeling a bit empty afterwards? Knowing that you did not get all you could out of your workout? Do you walk around the block with your spouse, and think that you could be doing even more to improve your health, even while maintaining the same exercise routine? From my own perspective, I know that each and every workout just made me ask more questions.
How to maximize the aerobic benefits:
But the one question that I continually asked of myself was this…..What can I do to maximize the aerobic benefits of walking, hiking, or even running on the treadmill. And at the same time, improve my strength and helping me burn extra calories?
Why the CAP Adjustable Weighted Vest is the Best Option?
I began researching all of the exercise equipment that you can purchase for your home; Treadmills, Exercise Bikes, Recumbent Bikes and Rowing Machines. Each and every one of them are made to improve your health. All of them are made to help maximize your workout. But the one thing that separates these items from what I was LOOKING for was this: Every single one of those items are made to STAY at your home. They are not portable enough to take with you. ANYWHERE! When you want to exercise outside, in a park, or around your neighborhood, you can’t simply throw a treadmill or exercise bike in your car and hit the road. I needed something that I could take with me when I hike the canyon. Something I could throw in the car when I want to jog around the park.
How to increase endurance and explosiveness
After my initial research, I determined I found the perfect product for me. Because of the portability, flexibility of use, adjustable weight quantities in Adjustable Weighted Vests and comfort during wear, a weighted vest was the perfect answer.
After some additional research, it became clear that the CAP Adjustable Weighted Vest was the best option for me. I purchased the 80 pound version, which allows weight up to a TOTAL of 80 pounds. I started off with the 80 pound vest, but only packed it with 40 pounds of weight, allowing me to add more weight as I become stronger. My boyfriend, a bit smaller than myself, but more athletic, purchased the CAP Short Adjustable Weighted Vest. He went with the 50 pound short version for the same reasons, room to grow from an added weight perspective.
Regardless if you are training for your overall health and to improve the way you look or feel, or if your goals are more specific, such as increasing endurance and explosiveness, a weighted vest can be the perfect complement to your exercise routine. Also see these benefits of a weight vest.
Few things that you need to understand before you buy an Adjustable Weighted Vest:
Choosing the right adjustable weighted jacket is not a difficult task, but there are a few things that you need to understand when you begin your research:
– What is my budget?
– How much weight to do you want to add to the vest? (It is fairly easy to find vests that can add from 20 pounds to 150 pounds.)
– Know the weight increments that you can add, (Most vests use increments ranging from ½ pound up to 2 pounds.)
– Know what type of training or exercise you are going to be use the vest for. (For some exercises, any vest may work great, but for example, running requires a vest that hugs the body more, and has multiple adjustable belts or clips.)
Over the last 30 plus years, CAP Barbell, located in Houston, has developed and customized a few different versions of adjustable weighted vests, for both male and female customers.

Adjustable Weighted Vest Features:
Size – All three of the available adjustable weighted vests come in a “one size fits all” version. All three can be considered able to be used by either male or female, as the adjustable clips and belts allow the belt to be adapted to your specific needs and size requirements.
Adjustable Clips / Belts – Regardless of which vest you purchase, the adjustable belts and quick release clips enable you to “customize” the vest’s fit to your specific body and for your specific exercise routine.
Weight Adjustment Capacity – Between the many manufacturers of adjustable weight vests, it is difficult to determine an acceptable standard of increments to add weight to the vest. The range of weights to add to vests generally range from ½ pound to 2 pounds. With that being said, for some customers, adding weight by ½ pound increments is not even noticeable. We liked the ability to add weight in 2 pound bumps.
Reflective Safety Strips – If you are like me, some days our work life runs longer than we would like and does not enable us to get to our health and fitness exercise routine until the sun has gone down. With that being said, the Reflective Safety Strips are an ideal enhancement to some competitor’s vests, and allow you to feel comfortable while jogging down the street, or walking through the neighborhood.
Cell Phone Pocket – All of the CAP vests come with a pocket that can carry either a cell phone or an I-pod. Taking into consideration the multi-tasking world in which we live today, this pocket gives you the opportunity to take or place calls when you are in demand. For me, the biggest benefit of the Cell Phone Pocket has nothing to do with multi-tasking for work, but for my own need to hear a little Guns N Roses or AC-DC to keep me motivated! In either case, there is no better way to increase the functionality of any of the Adjustable Weighted Vests, than the Cell Phone Pocket.
Adjustable Weighted Vest Fitting:
One area that you should probably spend a bit more time on is the actual fitting of the vest itself. You can see by the chart shown above that there are several different lengths of vests available from CAP, ranging from 15.75 inches to XXX inches. This is important to understand as you need to know what type of exercises you are going to be undertaking while wearing the vest, so that it can fit as best as possible. The quick release clips and belts are extremely helpful in “forming” the vest to your body, but the length of the longer version of the vest can be a hindrance when jogging or running, so keep that in mind.
Adjustable Weighted Vest Review
* Flexible adjustments using the belts and quick release clips
* Ability to add weight to the vest as your stamina and ability increases
* Neoprene padding makes the weighted vest as comfortable as possible
* Cell Phone Pocket
* Ability to “organize” the weights in the multiple pockets as you see fit.
* Without wearing a shirt underneath the vest, some reddening of the shoulder area.
* I can only use the short version while running, as the longer version ends up hitting my thighs.
* At times, the adding of weights to the pockets can be difficult.
* Velcro strap occasionally grabs jersey material from undershirt.

I had tried a friend of mine’s vest earlier this year, but did not like way that it felt on my shoulders. As you know, the more weight you put into the vest, the more stress and pressure you will feel on your shoulders, but with CAP’s neoprene design, these vests are quite a bit more comfortable. What I like most about both the vests is the way that I can easily move the added weights from the front to the back, or eliminate them totally from the adjustable weighted vest, depending on the type of exercise I am doing. The only negative that I can really say about either of the vests that we purchased is that the “body side” of the Velcro strap either itches you, or snags your t-shirt. To combat that, I simply purchased another Velcro strap and put the soft side on top of the initial piece, and that solved both problems. Neither my boyfriend or I have had any issues with the quality of the vests we purchased, and for the goals that we had, the CAP Adjustable Weighted Vests and the CAP Short Adjustable Weighted Vests are the perfect addition to our exercise equipment!
